"Habitat in Brasilia, Jamaica." RCN: 2902.
Lectotype (Pennington in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 84. 1993): [icon] "Prunif. s. Nuci-prunifera fructu saponario, orbiculato, monococco nigro, Americana" in Plukenet, Phytographia: t. 217, f. 7. 1692; Almag. Bot.: 265. 1696. - Typotype: Herb. Sloane 97: 127; 101: 122 (BM-SL).
Generitype of Sapindus Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 151. 1929).
Current name: Sapindus saponaria L. View in CoL ( Sapindaceae ).
Note: Verdcourt (in Taxon 46: 360. 1997) proposed the conservation of the gender of the generic name as masculine. This was recommended by the Committee for Spermatophyta (in Taxon 48: 369. 1999).
Croat (in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 63: 504. 1977) indicated either 514.1 or 514.2 (LINN) as type but, as noted by Wijnands (Bot. Commelins: 185. 1983), neither is original material for the name. Although Wijnands suggested that Clifford material (BM) might be an appropriate choice as type, he did not do this formally and Pennington’s choice therefore has priority.
