Brachylinga antennata (Kröber)

antennata Kröber (1911: 498 male key, 500 fem. key, 508 orig. desc.; 1913:29 dist.; 1928a:5 dist., 8 male key, 11 fem. key) ( Psilocephala ); Metz et al. (2003:22 comb. change) ( Brachylinga ). Type locality Chile, Concepción. Syntypes in Hermann Collection. Nomen dubium.

Kröber (1911) deposited male and female specimens of Psilocephala antennata in the Hermann collection. No specimens determined by Kröber as Psilocephala antennata have been located in the collections of the NHW, USNM, ZMHB or ZSMC and they are presumed lost or destroyed. In his original description Kröber (1911:508) indicated that the scape was spherical. Numerous specimens of Brachylinga from Chile have been examined during this study and no specimens with a spherical scape were found. The two species of Brachylinga known from Chile ( B. chilensis and B. sericeifrons ) have been collected at Concepción, the type locality of P. antennata , but have the length of the scape longer than wide (as in Kröber 1928b:35 Fig. 4). Since no specimens of Brachylinga from Chile matched Kröber’s description of Psilocephala antennata and none of the syntypes have been located and are presumed lost or destroyed we propose that Psilocephala antennata Kröber be considered a nomen dubium.
