Lysilinga recta Webb View in CoL spec. nov.

( Figs. 370, 380, 390, 400, 410, 420,430, 440, 449)

Etymology

Rectus = (Latin) straight, upright, proper. This name is used as an adjective and refers to the straight, ventrally directed apex of the distiphallus.

Diagnosis

Lysilinga recta is taxonomically associated with L. parkeri in possessing setae on the katepisternum and in lacking dorsocentral macrosetae. Lysilinga recta differs from L. parkeri in having the male ommatidia smaller ventrally and laterally; the surface of male frons distinctly raised; the wing membrane pale gray with a faint brown tint; anteroventral macrosetae absent on the forelegs; posteroventral macrosetae absent on hindlegs; and the apex of the distiphallus directed ventrally (Fig. 440).

Description of holotype male (MEI 112267)

Body length 4.8 mm.

Head. Length 0.66 mm. Ommatidia smaller ventrally and laterally. Frons white; surface raised, convex; setae dark reddish brown intermixed with scattered pale setae. Antenna/head length 0.83, scape dark reddish brown, pruinescence gray, pedicel and flagellum pale reddish brown with apex of flagellum dark reddish brown; scape length 0.20 mm, width 0.10 mm, length/width 2.0, scape/pedicel length 2.9, scape/flagellum width 0.71, setae dark and pale reddish brown, grading into macrosetae; pedicel length 0.07 mm, length/width 0.7; first flagellomere quadrate, attenuate apically, flagellum length 0.28 mm, width 0.14 mm wide, length/width 2.0, flagellum/scape length 1.4. Parafacial pruinescence white. Maxillary palpus dark yellow; length 0.32 mm, length/width 5.3; setae white to pale yellow. Genal setae white. Occipital setae white becoming pale gold, lanceolate, sparse dorsally. Postocular macrosetae dark reddish brown.

Thorax. Macrosetae dark reddish brown, 3 np, 2 sa, 1 pa, 0 dc, 2 sc. Mesonotum dull brownish gray; setae black, elongate intermixed with dull gold, lanceolate, subappressed setae. Pleuron and scutellum dark reddish brown, pruinescence gray; setae white on propleuron, anepisternum, katepisternum, metanepisternum, laterotergite, dull gold on scutellum. Wing. Membrane pale brown, veins brown; length 7.5 mm, length/width 2.8; pterostigma brown; cell m 3 open slightly or closed. Halter dark brown. Legs. Coxal macrosetae dark reddish brown. Femora dark reddish brown, pruinescence white; ventral setae white; av 0:0:3, pv 0:0:0. Tibiae dark yellow, apex reddish brown. Tarsomeres 1–2 dark yellow, apex dark reddish brown; 3–5 dark reddish brown.

Abdomen. Dark reddish brown, pruinescence white, dense; dorsal setae white, appressed; lateral setae white. Terminalia (MEI 112271). Tergite 8 and epandrium ( Fig. 370), setae dark yellow. Hypoproct ( Fig. 370) quadrate, posterior margin emarginate; ending distal to apex of cercus. Gonocoxite ventral view (Fig. 380), broad, quadrate, tapering apically to blunt point, medial margin straight, setae dark yellow becoming dark brown apically with small patch of short dark yellow setae posteromedially; dorsal view ( Fig. 390), gonocoxal bridge moderately large; lateral view (Fig. 400) quadrate, tapered apically to broad point; ventral lobe (Fig. 380) with ventral spines. Gonostylus ( Fig. 410), basodorsal lobe moderately large, convex; ventral margin bladelike, setae dark yellow; fine, short spines scattered laterally. Aedeagus with dorsal apodeme (Fig. 420) quadrate, sides parallel, posterolateral margin rounded; ventral apodeme ( Fig. 430) tapered anteriorly, not extending to anterior margin of dorsal apodeme; distiphallus dorsal view (Fig. 420) tapered apically with dorsal carina, lateral view (Fig. 440), broad basally, apical half straight, directed ventrally, subapical hood small, curved ventrally, apex pointed; ejaculatory apodeme (Fig. 420) dark yellow, anterior half expanded laterally, not extending to anterior margin of dorsal apodeme, anterior margin emarginate, in crosssection flattened dorsoventrally.

Female Unknown.

Distribution Lysilinga recta is known from Sonora, Mexico ( Fig. 449).
