TYPE LOCALITY: Nicaragua, San Juan del Norte .

DISTRIBUTION: S Mexico to Panama.

STATUS: CITES - Appendix I and U.S. ESA - Endangered as A. g. frontatus and A. g. panamensis only, otherwise Appendix II; IUCN - Vulnerable.

SYNONYMS: azuerensis, cucullatus , frontatus , grisescens , melanocercus, melanochir , neglectus , ornatus , pan , panamensis, rufiventris, trianguligera, tricolor , vellerosus , yucatanensis .
