TYPE LOCALITY: Africa .

DISTRIBUTION: SE Nigeria; Cameroon, north of the Sanaga River and just south of it; Bioko ( Equatorial Guinea). See Grubb (1973) for details.

STATUS: CITES - Appendix I; U.S. ESA and IUCN - Endangered.

SYNONYMS: cinerea , drill , hagenbecki , mundamensis , poensis , sylvicola .

COMMENTS: Delson and Napier (1976:46) considered this species in genus Papio , subgenus Papio . Placed in subgenus Mandrillus by Dandelot (1974:9). Mandrillus considered a full genus by Groves (1989).
