TYPE LOCALITY: Indonesia, Sulawesi, Maluku, Bacan Isl .

DISTRIBUTION: Sulawesi, northeast of Gorontalo, Bacan, and adjacent islands ( Indonesia).

STATUS: CITES - Appendix II.

SYNONYMS: lembicus , nigrescens .

COMMENTS: Type species of Cynopithecus ; see Fooden (1969). Includes nigrescens ; see Groves (1980c). Corbet and Hill (1980:88) also included brunnescens and maura ; but see Fooden (1969:1-9).
