DISTRIBUTION: Guinea to Gabon.

STATUS: CITES - Appendix II; U.S. ESA - Endangered; IUCN - Vulnerable.

SYNONYMS: aethiopicus F. Cuvier, 1821 ; atys Andebert, 1797 ; collaris Gray, 1843 ; crossi Gray, 1843 ; fuliginosus E. Geoffroy, 1812 ; lunulatus Temminick, 1853 .

COMMENTS: Includes atys ; see Dandelot (1974:12) and Groves (1978b).
