Distribution: Southern PQ to central FL to eastern TX to southern MB with apparently disjunct populations in CO, UT and southwestern MT. Kentucky collections are concentrated in the eastern two thirds of the state (Map 124).
Kentucky counties: Anderson (1), Barren (1), Breathitt (1), Bullitt (8), Edmonson (2), Fayette (21), Grant (1), Hardin (1), Harlan (1), Jefferson (2), Jessamine (2), Letcher (2), Madison (14), Nicholas (2), Owen (2), Pulaski (2), Rowan (4), Warren (1), Webster (1)
Years: 1892 (1), 1907 (2), 1916 (1), 1918 (1), 1941 (5), 1942 (2), 1945 (1), 1954 (2), 1963 (1), 1966 (2), 1971 (2), 1972 (2), 1975 (1), 1976 (7), 1981 (2), 1982 (2), 1986 (2), 1995 (1), 2009 (2), 2011 (1), 2012 (8), 2013 (12), 2014 (4), 2015 (2), 2016 (2), 2017 (1)
Months: May (17), June (46), July (5), August (1)
Collections (50 records, 69 specimens): ABRC (13), AMBC (2), BG (2), EGCCRC (13), INHSIC (1), JMLC (1), OSUC (1), PDBC (1), UKIC (32), UMRM (2), WKUC (1)
Collection methods: Malaise trap (27); Flowers: Rubus (7), Aruncus (2), Hydrangea (2); sweeping Trifolium (1)
Larval host plants: Stem borers in Ratibida pinnata , Solidago canadense canescens , Rosa and Rubus ( Monné
& Nearns 2022d). However, Bousquet et al. (2017) report that Rosa and Rubus are likely erroneous and actually should be attributed as the host of O. affinis .
Comments: Perhaps the most abundant species of Oberea in Kentucky. Sweeping herbaceous vegetation in and around goldenrod ( Solidago ) can be an effective collecting method ( Bousquet et al. 2017).
