Taxonomic note: Bousquet et al. (2017) erected P. vibex (Newman, 1841) from synonymy with P. ruficollis . Keep this in mind if using an identification guide published before 2017— P. ruficollis can have a red or black pronotum—those with a uniformly black pronotum could be P. vibex ( Bousquet et al. 2017) and could occur in Kentucky (see Appendix II).
Distribution: NS to northern GA to northeastern AL to MN and southern ON. The three Kentucky specimens are from one locality the northeastern part of the state (Western Allgheny Plateau; Map 144).

Adults frequent flowers of Acer , Aruncus , Azalea , Ceanothus , Crataegus , Cornus , Daucus, Geranium , Heracleum , Hydrangea , Magnolia , Pyrus , Rhododendron , Rosa , Rubus , Sambucus , Spiraea , Viburnum ( Chemsak 2005) and Tragopogon ( Lingafelter 2007)
Adult flower hosts: Acer , Cornus , Heracleum , Rubus , Sambucus , and Viburnum ( Bousquet et al. 2017)
Comments: Diurnal—adults are most commonly collected on flowers.
