Saperda puncticollis Say, 1824 View in CoL View at ENA ; Saperdini [new state record]
Distribution: Southern PQ to central GA to eastern TX to MN. Kentucky specimens of this infrequently collected species are from the central part of the state ( Interior Plateau ; Map 166).
Kentucky counties: Fayette (2), Madison (1)
Years: 1942 (1), 2012 (1), 2016 (1)
Months: April (1), May (1), June (1)
Collections (3 records, 3 specimens): EGCCRC (2), UKIC (1)
Collection methods: Malaise trap (2)
Larval host plants: Rhus spp. , Toxicodendron radicans , and Parthenocissus spp. ( Monné & Nearns 2022d)
Comments: Adults can be collected from Virginia creeper ( Parthenocissus quinquefolia ) but are rarely seen. Rearing can yield longer series: live Virginia creeper can be cut in early spring, left in the habitat through July for oviposition to occur, and then put into a rearing chamber—this should yield specimens sometime the following year.
