Lavatera maritima var. trilobata View in CoL
This taxon was described by Rouy (1897a: 46) from Southern France (“...Baou-de-4-heures près Toloun; Baous-Roux près Nice; Trou de Miége (Sagot); Port-Vendres (Rouy)”) to distinguish forms of L. maritima with upper leaves 3 − 5-lobed (“Feuilles...superficiellement 3–5-lobeés” for the typical L. maritima ). There are two sheets at LY (Rouy’s collection) that bear plants whose features match the protologue. The specimens were collected respectively in “Collines maritimes, Baus-Raux près Nice, alpes maritimes” (leg. Canut, date March, 3 1863), and in “Trou de Miége” (leg. J. Gros, date July, 18 1883). Rouy (1897a) cited “Sagot” as collector in the locality “Trou de Miége”, so Gros’ specimen cannot be considered original material, and it is not elegible as the lectotype. Concerning the other specimen, Rouy (1897a: 46) has not cited any collector for the locality “…Baus-Raux près Nice …”, so I consider this specimen part of the original material, and designate it as the lectotype of the name Lavatera maritima var. trilobata ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
