Holotype (male): Papua New Guinea: Morobe District, Mindik [6° 13' S, 147° 37' E], 1200–1600 m, IX.1968, N.L.H. Krauss, depository: Bernice P. Bishop Museum, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA ( BPBM). GoogleMaps

Paratypes: 2 females, same data as holotype ( BPBM) GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. Very similar to P. c. clavus . The subspecies P. c. carinata differs from the nominate subspecies in male by the apico-internal process of the cercus being long triangular, compressed, with the free apical area much longer than the basal area with crest ( Fig. 137) instead of about as long as that area ( Fig. 136); the dorsal baso-internal process is obliquely inserted ( Fig. 211), not horizontal ( Fig. 205). There are also minor differences in the shapes of the titillators. The females are identical.

Description. Fastigium verticis in front of eyes 1.1 mm, from base 1.4 mm; dorsal eye length 1.5 mm; greatest diameter of eye 1.6 mm; index fastigium verticis from base: eye length 0.9. Face rugose but shining. Tegmen reaching or little surpassing apex of hind femora, gradually narrowed behind basal widening. Femora with the following number of spines on ventral margins: fore femur 5–8 external, 6 internal; mid femur 6 external, 3 internal near base; hind femur 8–11 external, 1–8 minute internal near base.

Male. Stridulatory file sinuate, 2.3 mm long; teeth at apex very dense and indistinct; with 93 teeth or 40.8 teeth per mm, in middle of file with 31.3 teeth per mm. Mirror little narrowing posteriorly; fore and hind margins straight; 1.5 mm long 1.3 mm wide; index length:width = 1.1 ( Fig. 64). Tenth abdominal tergite globular; apical margin triangularly excised in middle, obtusely projecting on both sides ( Fig. 102). Epiproct narrow triangular, elongate, deeply furrowed. Paraproct with obtuse projection with concave lateral surface. Cerci cylindrical, slightly curved, with three internal projections: two in middle, one at apex; of the former the ventral little closer to base than the dorsal ( Figs. 137, 177, 208, 211, 231). Dorso-internal projection roughly triangular; ventro-internal projection club-shaped, with a crown of spinules at tip. Apico-internal projection almost pointing ventrad; suddenly constricted behind base, then dagger-shaped with obtuse apex. Subgenital plate with apex roundly excised; styli normal ( Fig. 287).

Titillators separate; basal parts rather broad, twisted; apical parts short-oval. Surface of apical parts densely covered with clinging hairs; apico-lateral margin faintly undulate, coarsely granular ( Figs. 311, 355, 400). Baso-lateral sclerite curved with quadrangular hyaline appendage. Apico-lateral sclerites forming a transparent window in the membrane.

Female. Tenth abdominal tergite furrowed in midline. Epiproct triangular with apex obtuse; surface depressed. Subgenital plate divided in midline by a triangular membranous area; resulting lateral plates bent dorsad in a nearly 90° angle; ventral surface grooved at base; apex angular, internal margin strongly concave, external margin convex ( Figs. 456, 498–499).

Coloration. Brown with remnants of green; probably green when alive. Face with black band between eyes including scapus; with another black band along clypeo-frontal suture extended on genae; scapus with dorsal area green; vertex infumate. Pronotal disc infumate, interrupted by yellowish brown round marks. Tegmen with dark cells and light veinlets. Fore tibia infumate in anterior area especially near tympana.

Measurements (1 male, 2 females): body male 30, female 24–27; pronotum male 7.3, female 6.5–7; tegmen male 26.5, female 24–25.5; hind femur male 17, female 17–17.5; antenna male 80, female 105; ovipositor female 15.5–17 mm.

Etymology. Named for the basal carina of the internal tooth of the male cerci.
