Genus Ggomapsalta Lee, 2009 View in CoL

Ggomapsalta Lee, 2009b: 295 View in CoL .

Type species: Pauropsalta vernalis Distant, 1916 .

21. Ggomapsalta fragilis sp. nov. ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 )

Type material. Holotype: male ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ), specimen code 10. PH.MN.COE.01, Mindanao, Compostela Valley, 9.5 km east of Compostela, 376 m, 07°40.374’N 126°09.004’E, 12 VII 2010, K.B.R. Hill, D.C. Marshall, J. Jones, D. Mohagan. Paratypes: 1 male, specimen code 10. PH.MN.COE.02, same data as holotype.

Etymology. The specific name is the Latin adjective, which is referenced to the tiny and “fragile” or “brittle” body of this species, which is also true for all other species of the genus.

Measurements of types (n = 2 males). Median length of body: 12.6 (12.5–12.7). Median length of head and thorax together: 5.6 (5.4–5.7). Median length of abdomen: 7.1 (7.0–7.1). Width of head including eyes: 3.9 (3.8– 3.9). Width of mesonotum: 3.6 (3.6–3.6). Width of abdominal tergite 3: 3.4 (3.2–3.5). Length of forewing: 15.9 (15.6–16.1). Width of forewing: 5.8 (5.7–5.9). Wing span: 35.3 (34.5–36.1).

Description of holotype, male ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ). Body tiny; nearly unicolor. Head greenish ochraceous with fuscous patches surrounding ocelli. Distance between lateral ocelli and eyes about twice the distance between lateral ocelli. Antennae mostly black except for proximal part of basal segment narrowly ochraceous. Postclypeus scarcely swollen anteriad and flat ventrally; without marks. Anteclypeus without marks. Rostrum ochraceous without marks; with apex extending beyond posterior margin of mid-coxae. Lorum and gena without marks.

Thorax: Pronotum greenish ochraceous to light green without marks. Anterolateral pronotal collar not developed nor dentate. Mesonotum greenish ochraceous to light green without distinct marks. Cruciform elevation mostly light green without marks. Thoracic sternites ochraceous to greenish ochraceous without marks. Legs ochraceous to greenish ochraceous. Fore-tibia and fore-, mid-, and hind tarsi dull orange. Fore-, mid-, and hind pretarsal claws fuscous apically. Fore-femur with primary, secondary, and two subapical spines.

Wings hyaline without infuscation. Forewing apical cell 1 very small, distinctly shorter than ulnar cell 1. Forewing venation green to greenish ochraceous proximally but fuscous distally. Basal membrane dull orange. Hind wing with five apical cells.

Operculum semicircular, short and wide, not reaching posterior margin of sternite II; light green. Opercula widely separated from each other.

Abdomen obconical, longer than head and thorax together; green to ochraceous. Timbal cover absent. Abdominal sternites ochraeous but sternite VII darker.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 C, D): Pygofer nearly diamond-shaped in ventral view. Upper lobe of pygofer absent. Dorsal beak dull, triangular, not acute. Median lobe of uncus triangular. A pair of clasper-like processes protruding downward. Latero-basal part of pygofer much protruding ventrally, forming nearly a right angle.

Remarks. This species very much resembles Ggomapsalta vernalis but is distinguished by the following characters: forewing apical cell 1 very small, distinctly shorter than ulnar cell 1 (about as long as ulnar cell 1 in G. vernalis ); latero-basal part of pygofer much protruding ventrally forming nearly a right angle (not protruding ventrally in G. vernalis ).
