Xenorhynchium van der Vecht 1963: 111 View in CoL . Type species: Vespa nitidula Fabricius, 1798 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. Mandibles long and slender, with teeth absent or inconspicuous. Clypeus longer than wide, emarginate apically. Cephalic fovea absent ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ). Vertex not sloping behind ocelli. Pronotum angular at humeri/shoulders ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ). Pronotum with complete transverse carina, its anterior surface smooth, without median pits. Pretegular carina present. Epicnemial carina well developed. Tegula little longer than wide, emarginate adjoining parategula exceeds posterior end of parategula ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 31 – 36 ). Notauli absent. Axillary fossa wide ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 31 – 36 ). Median part of postscutellum strongly raised above level of adjoining areas of propodeum, flattened dorsal surface approximately rectangular and about as long as vertically sloping, or even slightly overhanging, posterior surface ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 31 – 36 ). Propodeum with prominent lateral angles, concave declivity rather sharply separated from the dorsal and lateral areas ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 31 – 36 ). Dorsal furrow present on propodeum anteriorly. Superior carina present dorsally. Propodeal valvula and submarginal carina not free posteriorly. Metasoma sessile, T1 as wide as T2, wider than long. T2 and T3 with a smooth and shiny depressed apical margin. SMC2 basally acute. Prestigma more than half length of pterostigma. Mid tibia with one spur. Ƌ: F11 hook like, rounded apically; F10 shorter than previous ones; no cavity on inner margin. Body length usually 15–20 mm.
