Pedionis (Pedionis) tribrachyblasta View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1. P A–D, 2)
Description. Length. Male 4.0 mm.
Coloration. Body yellow brown ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1. P A, B). Head and face yellow. Ocelli brown, surrounding area yellow, eyes red brown ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1. P D). Pronotum pale yellow, with dense oblique striations. Scutellum ochraceous with numerous dark brown and pale brown spots ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1. P C). Forewings yellow brown, much darker basally and distally, middle section hyaline. Venation dark yellow with white spots ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1. P B).
Morphology. Body stout. Face slightly convex in lateral view. Eyes slightly prominent. Hind tibial chaetotaxy R1 11, R2 8, R3 5.
Male genitalia. Pygofer ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A) broad, slightly concave on dorsal margin. Apex with 3 obtuse dendritic processes in lateral view, producing several strong setae on caudoventral margin. Subgenital plate ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A) slender with many marginal setae, apex stout. Style ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 G) parallel-margined and angled on apical third, some stout setae produced at this broad margin. The apex dorsally upturned and truncate, producing several setae on dorsal margin. Aedeagus ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 D, E) broader basally, shaft strongly sinuated, angled heavily on apical third and with bulge occurred in mid-dorsum in lateral view; apex tapering, and with two pairs of processes, the apical process located at lateral margin, subapical finger-like lamellate protrusion located on ventral margin. Connective ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 B, C) broadened basally, finger-like protrusion in middle near apex, both sides bent to inside. Dorsal connective ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 F) with broad base, a ventral curved and a median caudally-directed processes, the latter with minutely serrated margin and produced into two obvious bendings.
Female. Unknown.
Distribution. China: Fujian (Mt. Meihua)
Material examined. Holotype: Male, China, Fujian Province, Mt. Meihua (in the southwest of Fujian Province), 10 August 2007, coll. Yang Meixia. Paratype: 1 male, same data as holotype.
Remarks. Pedionis tribrachyblasta resembles P. yunnana Zhang & Viraktamath externally, but differs in having lighter colour. Pygofer is truncate apically with three dendritic ventral processes, and with several stout setae along subapical ventral margin.
Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin word “tri–” and “brachyblastus”, which refers to the three dendritic processes of the pygofer.
