Description. Body oval to nearly circular, moderately to strongly convex, with elytra wider than pronotum. Head not visible from above, covered by pronotum. Eyes small, coarsely faceted. Antennae doubly geniculate in repose, 11-segmented; antennomeres 1 and 2 elongate, stout; antennomere 2 smaller than antennomere 1; three apical antennomeres forming weakly asymmetrical club; membranous sensilla on all club segments. Labrum trapezoidal to rectangular and transverse. Mandible broad, flat and obtuse apically, with distinct tuberculate mola and prostheca. Maxilla with 3-segmented palpus; palpomere 1 very narrow at base and strongly expanded laterally at apex; palpomere 2 very short and transverse; palpomere 3 narrow, long, conical; lacinia elongate, with deeply serrate apex. Labium with large and trapezoidal to rectangular mentum with pentagonal ridge; ligula large and widened apically; palpus 2-segmented, inserted near fourth of way from base of ligula; palpomere 1 large and distinctly longer than small palpomere 2; submentum short and transverse. Pronotum widest posteriorly; posterior angles almost right; anterior margin circular, usually without emargination. Prosternum in front of coxa reduced to narrow strip; prosternal process narrow and flat, weakly expanded posteriorly, with pointed anterior projection. Procoxal cavities much wider than long, narrowly open externally and closed internally; procoxae much wider than long and conical. Scutellum triangular, usually transverse. Mesoventrite without distinct disc. Mesocoxal cavities slightly wider than long, narrower laterally, closed by meso- and metaventrite; mesocoxae slightly wider than long. Elytra widest at anterior third to half, with rounded apex; microsculpture usually simple, sometimes indistinctly meshed, with punctures and very short pubescence; sutural striae very short with narrow interval or absent; epipleuron narrow. Metaventrite large and broad, much longer than abdominal ventrite 1, with complete postcoxal lines extending laterally; microsculpture from simple to meshed. Metacoxae transverse, widely separated. Wings functional or brachypterous. Legs showing no sexual dimorphism; protibia usually widened with angle on outer margin; meso- and metatibiae often slightly widened; claws simple. Abdomen with six ventrites and seven pairs of functional spiracles; ventrite 1 as long as ventrites 2 and 3 combined, with arcuate and complete postcoxal lines.

Penis usually simple, sometimes strongly bent at base. Basal piece of tegmen with oval aperture, and phallobase with median longitudinal endocarina.

Bursa copulatrix usually without apical sclerites; spermathecal duct usually simple, sometimes thick or thin and extremely long; spermatheca very variable, usually with worm-like body fusing gland duct lobe and swelling sperm duct lobe; body with membranous patch; apical lobe absent.
