1. Lateral vertical seta present, length subequal to medial vertical seta; postsutural, supra-alar seta either lacking or much reduced; arista at most macropubescent; postpronotum bearing 2–3 setulae; wing appearing dull, palely infuscate, 2 white spots on either side of crossvein dm-cu (the pollinosa View in CoL group).................................... - Lateral vertical seta lacking; postsutural, supra-alar seta present, length subequal to postalar seta; arista micropectinate, hair length about 1/2 height of basal flagellomere; postpronotum bare; wing appearing shiny, mostly hyaline, lacking white spots as above (the paniculata View in CoL group)............................................................................ 2
2. Male 4th abdominal sternite subrectangular, posterior margin truncate, setae at posterior margin slightly larger but not clumped; ventral margin of epandrium with conspicuous U-shaped medial emargination in posterior view; aedeagus more slender and with more distinct taper toward apex: gonite with acutely pointed process posteriorly........ N. acutella Mathis View in CoL
- Male 4th abdominal sternite pentagonal, posterior margin shallowly pointed, with distinct clump of 15 or more larger setae near apex; ventral margin of epandrium lacking U-shaped medial emargination in posterior view; aedeagus with gradual taper throughout its length; gonite lacking pointed process along posterior margin....................... N. paniculata Mathis View in CoL
