Macrostemum bravoi França, Paprocki & Calor, new species

Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 A–E

This new species has a distinct medial prominence on the anterior margin of its falciform phallotremal sclerite in ventral view. This species is similar to Macrostemum erichsoni , but the anterior margin of segment IX is rounded and the apex of the phallus is truncate in lateral view. The forewings of the new species have a distinctive pattern of hyaline and brownish areas with blurred boundaries while all previously described species have very well-defined dark spots. However, the distribution and the shape of the spots can resemble those of M. erichsoni .

Description. Adults in alcohol. Forewing mean length 11.9 mm (11.29–12.86 mm, n=7). Head yellowishbrown. Compound eyes black. Scapes brown dorsally and yellow on ventral surfaces. Maxillary palps yellow with ferruginous and yellow setae. Prothorax yellow. Meso- and metathorax yellowish-brown. Legs brownish-yellow. Tibial spur formula 1,4,4. Forewings with dark and hyaline pattern colors; but spots without clearly distinguishable boundaries; each with discoidal cell present; radial sector normal ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A).

Male genitalia. Abdominal segment IX, in lateral view, with anterior margin rounded; posterior margin sinuous, deeply notched, bordered by long setae above and below notch ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B); in dorsal view with posterior margin bearing medial acuminate keel and long setae along right and left posterior margins ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E). Segment X, in dorsal view, bilobed, each lobe apically rounded and with subapical wart ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E); in lateral view, tapered to rounded apex, with subdorsal row of small setae 2/3rds distance from base and another on ventrolateral margin ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B). Inferior appendages uniformly covered by small setae; each with basal segment approximately same length as apical segment, constricted subbasally; apical segment gradually broader to near rounded apex ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B). Phallus arched; apex, in lateral view, truncate, with small rounded posteroventral prominence; phallotremal sclerite falciform, without dorsal process, bearing medial prominence on anterior margin ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 C); phallotrema rounded, concave, apically positioned on posterior surface of phallus.
