Biology. Adults occur from mid-June to early August between about 1000–1200 m elevation.
Distribution. Mongolia.
Remarks. The male genitalia ( Figs. 13–14 View FIGURES 11–14 ) are similar to those of P. pseudozonula but they differ in that sacculus and valvella of P. gershensonae are equal in width. The female genitalia ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 15–17 ) are characterized by the fine honeycomb pattern around the ostium bursae and the narrow elongate signum. P. gershensonae is an externally variable species. The holotype and most specimens examined are characterized by a forewing with a cream costal half and light brown dorsal half ( Figs. 5–7 View FIGURES 1–10 ). There also are specimens that are nearly uniform cream or yellowish brown with black veins, and specimens with transverse brown fasciae ( Figs. 8– 10 View FIGURES 1–10 ). The last resemble P. zonula and P. pseudozonula . The different colour forms are represented by specimens collected at the same locality at the same time. Moreover, no genitalia differences were found in either sex between the different forms. Such strong variation in forewing pattern is unusual for the family Gelechiidae , and the conspecificity of these individuals should be confirmed with molecular data in the future.
