Type data: This species was described based on three females and one male collected in Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico. Two females from Brazil and Venezuela were found at ZMB , being the Brazilian specimen here designated the lectotype. Friese 1898 [printed]\ [white label with red lateral margins] LECTOTYPE [printed] Centris lutea Friese, 1899 [handwritten] desig. Melo , 2016 [printed]\ http://mfnberlin.de/u/ 58fa47 QR code [printed] ( ZMB). The current condition and depository of the remaining paralectotypes are unknown .
Type locality: Brazil .
Comments: The type locality cannot be further narrowed down than to Brazil. This species is similar to C. bicolor Lepeletier, 1841 , differing for it by its larger size and by the pubescence of the lateral surface of the mesepisternum and pronotal lobe (black in C. lutea ; yellow in C. bicolor ).
