2. Embelia basaal (Roemer & Schultes) Candolle (1834: 131) View in CoL

= Ardisia basaal Roemer & Schultes (1819: 518) View in CoL .

Lectotype (designated here):—[illustration] “Basaal” in Rheede, Hortus Malabaricus 5: t. 12.1685.

Roemer and Schultes (1819) described the taxon Ardisia basaal by citing the work of Rheede (1685) and Lamarck (1783), based on which, later Candolle (1834) proposed a new combination E. basaal . Our search for the specimen of E. basaal in BM, P and G-DC based on Stafleu & Cowan (1979; 1983; 1985) was unsuccessful. Nevertheless, in Hortus Malabaricus “Basaal” (5: t. 12) an illustration is available which matches with the protologue. Hence, we designate here this illustration as lectotype according to Art. 9.3 of ICN ( Turland et al. 2018).
