Glyptothrips saltuarius ( Hood, 1957b) View in CoL
( Figs 57–60 View FIGURES 57–60 )
This is one of the three species in the genus described as having the largest head length to width ratio (about 1.5x or more; Fig. 58 View FIGURES 57–60 ), together with G. divergens and G. longiceps . It can be differentiated from these two species by having setae S2 of abdominal tergite IX in females with dilated tip, instead of acute or at most blunt. It is also quite similar to G. hylaeus , with only head length distinguishing these species.
Known wing forms: macropterous and micropterous.
Specimens studied. Holotype ♀; Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia , under fallen leaves, ii.1954 (F. Plaumann), at NMNH.
Allotype ♂, same collection data and depositary as holotype (but dated x.1955).
