TYPE LOCALITY: "Zeylona;" corrected to Surinam by Thomas (1911a). Not British Guiana as stated by Tate (1939) .

DISTRIBUTION: Guianas and Venezuela (delta and south of Rio Orinoco) south into Brazil (Maranhâo west along Rio Amazonas/Solimöes) and west into upper Amazon Basin of Ecuador and Peril.

SYNONYMS: brasiliensis Fitzinger, 1871 ; curi Link, 1795 ; florenciae J. A. Allen, 1913 ; kouri Daudin, 1799 ; napensis Lönnberg, 1922 ; unau Link, 1795 .
