Type Locality: South Africa, Western Cape Province, Oliphants River.
Vernacular Names: Cape Elephant Shrew.
Synonyms: Elephantulus capensis Roberts 1924 ; Elephantulus edwardsii (Sclater 1901) ; Elephantulus karoensis Roberts 1938 .
Distribution: W and SC South Africa.
Conservation: IUCN – Least Concern.
Discussion: Corbet and Hanks (1968:97) suggested there might be a western and eastern subspecies.
