Genus Oestropsyche Brauer, 1868 View in CoL
Oestropsyche Brauer, 1868: 265 View in CoL [Type species: Oestropsyche palingenia Brauer, 1868: 266 [= Oestropsyche vitrina Hagen, 1859 View in CoL ] (by monotypy)]; Ulmer, 1907 (redescription).
Diagnosis. This genus can be distinguished from other Macronematinae genera by having two head setal warts raised anteriorly on vertex ( Fig. 182 View Figs ). Forewing discoidal cell absent. Median cell longer and broader in males than in females. Thorax without markings. Tibia and tarsal segments of legs, dilated.
Remarks. Fischer (1963) initially placed this genus in the tribe Macronematini , despite the absence of mouthparts, whereas Barnard (1980) placed it in the tribe Polymorphanisini based on both larval characters and the absence of adult mouthparts ( Ulmer, 1951).
