Subgenus Quedius View in CoL
Diagnosis. The diagnostic characters of the subgenus Quedius were determined based on limited morphological data on Q. fuliginosus and Q. molochinus , extracted from the respective descriptions by Smetana (1962), Pototskaya (1967), Kasule (1970), and the present study. The combination of characters that distinguish the larvae of the subgenus Quedius from those of other subgenera of Quedius are the following: head widened anteriorly; posterior part of nasale as in Fig. 3B; medial tooth (Mt) of labrum low (at most reaching half of paramedian teeth length), Lt2 distinct; mandible slender with pointed apex; antennal segment I slightly broad; large sensory appendage on segment III acorn-shaped, relatively slender (more than twice as long as wide); apotome clearly extending beyond tentiorial pit; mala, maxillary and labial palp, and segment I of urogomphi distinctly slender; pygopod distinctly (1.5–1.7x) longer than urogomphi.
