Lepidura seminitida Araujo & Vivallo , sp. nov.

( Figs. 11, 12 View FIGURES 9–12 , 13 View FIGURE 13 )

Diagnosis: Body with dense white pubescence, particularly on clypeus, mesosoma, and T7–T9, sparser on T1–T6. Head mostly lime green; antenna brown; mandible yellowish with well delimited, dark brown teeth ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 9–12 ). Body lime green, except prothorax and mesothorax somewhat yellowish and ovipositor sheath brown. Anterior margin of T2 with dark brown spot and anterior margin of T3 with small light brown spot; anterior and posterior margins of all tibiae and tarsi brown ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 9–12 ).

Description. Holotype female ( Figs. 11, 12 View FIGURES 9–12 ). Approximate body length: 7.1 mm. Fore wing length: 5.1 mm; antenna length: 7.8 mm; Number of flagellomeres: 3 9–40; head 1.15× as wide as high (front view); distance between eye and lateral ocellus 1.50× as long as diameter of lateral ocellus; frons smooth, clypeus 0.50× as wide as high; mandible 2.65× as long as basal width (front view); mandible with two well developed teeth; mandible basal width 1.75× as long as malar space; pronotum polished; hind femur 9.20× as long as wide; hind tibia 9.70× as long as wide; hind basitarsus 8.45× as long as wide; mesosoma generally smooth, polished and finely punctate; areolet rhombic, somewhat roundish, 1.50× as wide as long; hind wing with 5 hamuli; propodeum smooth, with isolated punctures; costula well delimited, without areola but with subpentagonal area delimited by complete lateral longitudinal and posterior transverse carina and incomplete anterior transverse and median longitudinal carina ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–3 ); postpetiole 2.10× as long as maximum width; glymma deep, seemingly with thin membrane between both sides; T1–T7 smooth, with isolated punctures; T2 3.10× as long as its height (lateral view); hypopygium large and triangular in lateral view, green, 1.00× as long as wide; ovipositor, 3.30× as long as basal width.

Male: Unknown.

Type material: Holotype female: Prov. Valdivia, Vald. Chile – 15-5-86, E. Krahmer (UACh).

Type Locality: CHILE: Región de Los Ríos: Valdivia .

Distribution ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 ): CHILE: Región de Los Ríos: Valdivia (Parque Oncol).

Etymology: From the latin “ semi ” (almost) and “ nitida ” (shiny), referring to the color pattern of this species, slightly shiny green.

Comments: Lepidura seminitida sp. nov. is similar to L. abbreviata by the green propodeum and T6–T9. It can be differentiated from the later by having narrower gena, five hamuli on the hind wing and mesosoma uniformly yellow, whereas L. abbreviata shows a wider gena, only two hamuli on hind wing and mesosoma reddish brown, with darker spots on lateral lobes of mesoscutum, around tegula and anterior portion of mesopleuron. Lepidura seminitida sp. nov. shows the areolet, though still rhombic, more roundish than other species. The Holotype will be deposited at the Museo Nacional de História Natural de Santiago (MHNS).
