Description (Habitus: Fig. 3 View FIGURES 3–4 ): 10.3–11.7 mm long (5.1–5.3 mm, abdomen excluded). Black, shining; mandibles dark brown, palpi and labrum pale reddish, antennae reddish brown, basal segment often partly or entirely dark brown to blackish, sometimes middle segments to variable extent darker brown; posterior margins of tergites V–VII very narrowly, obscurely, badly delimited reddish, tergite VIII black with posterior fourth reddish; legs black to dark brown, protarsi reddish, meso- and metatarsi of similar color as tibiae at base, becoming paler distad, tarsomeres V usually reddish.
Head ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 9–12 ) rounded quadrangular, 1.13–1.14 times as wide as long, tempora subparallel, 1.8 (female) to 2.2 (male) times as long as very small eyes, dorsal surface with only a few larger setiferous punctures along medial margin of eyes, on tempora and along base of head; hind angles of head broadly rounded; surface with faint traces of isodiametric microsculpture, in addition, with moderately dense micropunctation; antennae moderately long, segments 4–5 slightly oblong, segments 6–8 about as long as wide, segments 9 and 10 slightly transverse; pronotum slightly oblong, 1.07–1.08 times as long as wide, sides weakly rounded, surface without any setiferous punctures, with micropunctation and isodiametric microsculpture as on head; scutellum rather coarsely, moderately densely punctate; elytra ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 13–16 ) along sides markedly longer than pronotum along midline, with coarse and dense, almost uniform punctation, becoming somewhat finer laterad, hypomera densely, moderately coarsely punctate; abdominal tergites with dense and coarse, almost pit-like punctation, from third visible tergite on, punctural grooves becoming increasingly longitudinal posteriad; abdominal characters hardly differing from those of the previous species.
Aedeagus ( Figs 21, 22 View FIGURES 17–24 , 27 View FIGURES 25–29 ) with median lobe in ventral view almost parallel-sided ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 17–24 ), apex in lateral view ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 17–24 ) straight, paramere ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 25–29 ) slightly longer than median lobe, slender, parallel-sided, peg setae ar- ranged in irregular subapical cluster.
Diagnosis: The species differs from B. ruficornis by the generally darker color, particularly of the posterior margins of the abdominal tergites, the smaller eyes and the almost uniform elytral punctation.
Distribution: The species is known only from the type locality.
Etymology: The species is named in honor of its collector, Carolus Holzschuh, whose extensive collecting at this locality contributed a lot to the knowledge of Staphylinidae from Laos.
