Description. Body length (from apex of vertex to tip of forewings): male 5.05–5.15 mm (N = 6); female 5.82–6.05 mm (N = 2); forewing length: male 4.25–4.35 mm (N = 6); female 4.90–5.25 mm (N = 2).

Coloration. Crown (Fig. 1) pale yellowish white, markings behind ocelli and two markings at anterior margin brown. Eyes (Fig. 1) blackish brown, ocelli yellowish white. Face (Fig. 2) pale yellowish white, except beneath antennal bases blackish brown. Antennae (Figs 1, 2) pale yellowish white. Pronotum (Figs 1, 3, 4) pale yellowish brown, median and posterior area with irregular brown markings. Scutellum (Figs 1, 3, 4) pale yellowish white, basal angles and central area pale brown. Forewing (Figs 3–5) pale yellowish brown, veins yellowish white, with irregular blackish brown markings at median and posterior region. Thorax with ventral areas dark brown, legs pale yellowish white, hind tibia yellowish brown to brown. Abdomen dark brown dorsally and ventrally, lateral margins of each segment pale yellowish white.

Head and thorax. External features as in generic description. Crown shorter medially than width between eyes (0.7:1). Pronotum longer medially than crown (1.75:1). Scutellum shorter medially than pronotum (0.82: 1). Forewing longer medially than width at widest part (3.47:1). Hindwing ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5 – 13 ) with Sc and R separate distinctly.

Male genitalia. Male pygofer ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 13 ) with basal half nearly quadrate, then narrowing to apex, apical margin acute and rounded, with several macrosetae at apical area; ventral process stout, widening at middle, narrowing apically, arched clockwise in left lateral view. Genital valve ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 5 – 13 ) triangular, basal width longer than median length (1.29: 1). Subgenital plate ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 5 – 13 ) moderately narrow, triangular, inner margin straight, outer margin concave, narrowing apically, apex acute and rounded, with row of macrosetae laterally. Style ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 5 – 13 ) broad at base, abruptly narrowing subapically and curved hook-like. Aedeagus ( Figs 12, 13 View FIGURES 5 – 13 ) with shaft broad at middle, narrowing basally and apically, gonopore at apex, paired appendages long and straight, apex acute, arising from middle and directed along with apex of aedeagal shaft. Connective ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 5 – 13 ) Y-shaped, stem robust and arms well developed, stem slightly longer than arm (1.30:1).

Type material. Holotype: 3, China: Guizhou, Yanhe, Mayanghe National Natural Reserve, Lijiaba (108°30´N, 28°33´E), collected from bamboo ( Indocalamus sp.), 11 June 2007, X.-S. Chen ( IEGU); paratypes: 5 3, 2 ƤƤ, same data as holotype ( IEGU).

Host plant. Bamboo ( Indocalamus sp.).

Distribution. Southwestern China (Guizhou).

FIGUERS 1–4. Bambusananus lii sp. nov. (1) Head and thorax, dorsal view (male, paratype); (2) Head and thorax, ventral view (male, paratype); (3) Male adult, dorsal view (paratype); (4) Female adult, dorsal view (paratype).

Remarks. This new species is similar to B. furcatus Li & Xing, 2011 in general appearance, but differs in having the markings around the hind margin of the ocelli brown and smaller (blackish brown and larger in furcatus ), and the appendages of the aedeagal shaft straight, not branched (curved and branched in furcatus ).

Etymology. The new species is named in honor of Prof. Z. Z. Li, renowned leafhopper taxonomist from China.
