The pupa of Physoneura is unknown.
1. Thoracic horn absent; pedes spurii A and B absent; tergite II without pad of spines or hooks; if hooks present on posterior margin of tergite II, then hooks also present on tergites III and IV; anal lobe fringe usually present, except in Ichthyocladius View in CoL and Notocladius View in CoL . Corynoneura View in CoL group .................................................................................................. 2
- Character combinations different................................................................................................................... not keyed
2. Anal lobe strongly reduced, with apical or ventral macrosetae; anal lobe fringe absent; with hooklets on tergites I–IV and sternites IV–VII .................................................................................................................... Ichthyocladius View in CoL Fittkau
- Anal lobe well developed; macrosetae not as above; anal lobe fringe present or absent; hooklets usually absent on sternites ......................................................................................................................................................................... 3
3. Anal lobe fringe absent; margin of anal lobe with small, lateral denticles ( Harrison 1997 Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ); with three anal macrosetae ..................................................................................................................................... Notocladius View in CoL Harrison
- Anal lobe fringe present; margin of anal lobe without denticles; anal macrosetae present or absent. ....................... 4
4. Anal macrosetae absent; inner margin of anal lobe without setae; with humeral callus with broad spine (Epler & de la Rosa 1995, Fig 3 View FIGURE 3 C); anal lobe with fringe in apical 1/3 ................................. Tempisquitoneura View in CoL Epler et de la Rosa
- Anal macrosetae present; inner margin of anal lobe with setae; humeral callus not as above; anal lobe with full fringe or fringe restricted to apical 1/3 .................................................................................................................................... 5
5. With single anal macroseta; anal lobe with fringe in apical 1/3, some lateral fringe setae spine-like; median corner of anal lobe with 1–3 spines ............................................................................................. Onconeura Andersen et Saether View in CoL
- With 3 anal macrosetae; if anal lobe fringe restricted to apical 1/3, then fringe with taeniate setae only; median corner of anal lobe without spines ..................................................................................................................................... 6
