Remarks. Gray (1849) described H. zara and specified Singapore as its type locality based on a specimen from Argent’s collection. However, H. zara is endemic to Sri Lanka ( Maduwage et al. 2009). In their revision of the genus, Maduwage et al. (2009) discussed that no populations of Hypnale occur east of Peninsular India and suggested that the specimen was presumably collected around Galle when a ship from Singapore destined for Europe anchored there. Nonetheless, the type locality for H. zara remains unamended (Wallach et al. 2014).
