Remarks. The type locality for A. armata is Singapore ( Hardwicke & Gray 1827) ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ), based on two specimens from Hardwicke’s collection and one from Argent’s collection ( Gray 1845). Flower (1899) expressed doubts of A. armata occurring in Singapore citing ambiguity with the location of some of Hardwicke’s specimens and that no further specimens were reported. Lim & Chou (1990) and Baker & Lim (2008) followed Flower’s (1899) opinion and listed A. armata as doubtful in their checklists. In Peninsular Malaysia, A. armata occurs at the upper elevations of hilly and mountainous dipterocarp forest up to 810 m ( Grismer 2011a, b). However, in the Seribuat Archipelago, it can be found at all elevations ( Grismer 2011a). Given the uncertainty of the localities of the Hardwicke and Argent specimens, and its habitat requirements in Peninsular Malaysia, we classify A. armata as erroneous. Consequently, we suggest the type locality should be changed to Penang, Malaysia, where the subsequent specimens were collected by Cantor (Cantor 1847; Boulenger 1885).
