Acrotaeniostola Hendel, 1914: 80 View in CoL , 88. Type species Acrotaeniostola sexvittata Hendel View in CoL , by original designation.

Diagnosis: Head higher than long, with 2 pairs of orbital and 3 pairs of frontal setae; ocellar seta well developed; face slightly projecting at lower margin; first flagellomere dorsoapically acute; arista plumose. Scutum with presutural and postsutural lateral yellow vittae present or absent; pleura yellow or fulvous to fuscous with or without an anepisternal stripe; scutellum yellow. Wing without distinct brown streaks in cells br, bm and bcu; pattern banded, costal band present or absent; bands brown;. Mid tibia with 1 apical spine. Abdomen fulvous to black, often with pale bands but without bands of whitish pubescence. Male with abdominal tergum II enlarged, not or weakly expanded over sides of tergum III. Epandrium continuous with lateral surstylus without demarcation; no distinction of anterior and posterior lobes; proctiger larger than epandrium. Epandrium and surstyli form an inverted U-shape when viewed posteriorly. Glans of phallus well developed with sclerotised curved hook-like structure. Female with 2 small round well-sclerotised spermathecae.
