Aplidium longithorax Monniot, 1987 View in CoL

Aplidium longithorax Monniot, F., 1987: 525 View in CoL ; Monniot and Monniot, 1996: 139.

Aplidium protectans: Kott, 1992a: 579 View in CoL .

Not Amaroucium protectans Herdman, 1899: 73 < Polycitor protectans View in CoL .

Distribution. New records: Queensland (Swain Reefs, QM G305411, G305678). P 1. (A) Sigillina pulvinus sp. nov. (SAM E2845); (B) Eucoelium orientalis (SAM E2641) ; (C) Aplidium lenticulum (QM G305407); (D) Aplidium macrolobatum (QM G305732); (E) Botrylloides saccus sp. nov. (SAM E2868). (F) Botrylloides violaceus (QM G308550). Acknowledgements: (A, B, E) K. Gowlett Holmes; (C, D) S. List; (F) N. Coleman.

The species is known from the Capricorn Group, the central and far northern Great Barrier Reef including Lizard I. and the Palau Is.

Remarks. Both Herdman (1899) and Kott (1963, 1992a) misidentified a Polycitor species as an Aplidium ( Amaroucium protectans Herdman, 1899 ). Fortunately, Monniot and Monniot (1996) examined the type specimen of Polycitor protectans (Herdman, 1899) and corrected this mistake. The species is large and conspicuous.
