HOLOTYPE. China. Mokansan : male[ China /Che Kiang/Mokansan/ 22 September 1927 / D. E. Wright] ( CASC).

Recognition Characters. Elongate oval; Derm fuscous; rostrum with seven dorsal carinae from frons to insertion of scape; elytral interval one with vitta of piceous scales to apex; scutellum large, scutate with cretaceous scales; pronotum broadly rounded to constriction 0.78 as wide as body; male with metauncus bifid.

Description. Male: Length: 4.1 mm. Width: 2.2 mm. Head: Small­sized; finely punctate with short, testaceous scales; eyes large, finely faceted; frons narrower than broadest width of rostrum, 0.28 as wide as head across eyes; clothed with narrow, elongate, testaceous scales; with oval interocular fovea. Rostrum: Length: 2.5 mm, 0.61 as long as body; cylindrical; margins subparallel, base thick, gradually tapering to antennal insertion; 7 median dorsal carinae including carina dorsad of scrobe from frons to insertion of scape; straight from frons to insertion of scape, then slightly arced to apex; scrobe ventral: scape inserted in apical half. Antennae: Length: Scape 1.1 mm; Funiculus: segment one 0.25 mm, two 0.25 mm, three 0.15 mm, four 0.1 mm, five 0.1 mm, six 0.1 mm, seven 0.1 mm, club 0.45 mm; funicle 1.15 mm; scape 0.96 as long as funicle; clothed with semierect fuscous seta­like scales toward apex of each segment; club oval, compact, acuminate, segments 1–3 similar in length, 4 short, with acute apex, clothed with short, fine pile; as long as funicular segments 4–7. Thorax: Length: 1.2 mm. Width: 1.7 mm. 0.78 as wide as body; lateral margins broadly rounded tapering to constriction; disc finely punctate, punctures separated by ridge with elongate, truncated, testaceous scales; feebly convex in lateral view from basal declivity to base of elytra; with feeble postocular lobes; base sinuate; mesosternal intercoxal process prominent, clothed with clavate, white scales; scutellum large, longer than broad, clothed with cretaceous scales; mesepimeron, mesepisternum and metepisternum evenly clothed with clavate, testaceous scales; anteroventral macula of white scales above procoxae; procoxae clothed with elongate, white scales. Elytra: Length: 2.6 mm. Striae rather deep, with white, clavate scales emerging from punctures; moderate scutellar declivity; humeri rounded; intervals broad, flat, clothed with narrow, elongate, testaceous scales, interval 1 with vitta of piceous scales from scutellum to apex; crosshatched setae prominent and piceous; laterally distad of midpoint with few white scales forming feeble oblique fascia across intervals 6–10. Legs: Length of hind femur 2.1 mm, tooth moderate, acute; tooth on pro and mesofemur small; all femora clothed with narrow, elongate, truncated, testaceous scales; two median carinae from base to club both externally and internally; hind tibiae feebly sinuate, apical comb ascending one quarter of posterior angle, vestiture of narrow, elongate, white, scales; pro­ and mesouncus large as long as tarsal claw, metauncus bifid. Abdomen: Sternite 1 not as long as 2 behind coxal cavity; all sternites evenly clothed with narrow, elongate, testaceous scales with truncate apices; sternite 2 ascending to 3; sternite 3 longer than 4, 3 and 4 combined longer than 5; apex of sternite 5 truncate, with 2 apical tufts of testaceous seta­like scales. Pygidium: Small clothed with testaceous setae. Genitalia: Median lobe of aedeagus 0.7 in length 0.2 in width, wider towards the apex than at the base dorsally, rather thin in lateral view, flat to gradually arced apex; apodeme 0.9 in length ( Figs. 37–39 View Figs ).

Female: Length: 3.7 mm. Width: 2.0 mm. Rostrum: Length: 2.7 mm. Antennae: Length: Scape 1.15 mm, funicle 1.1 mm, scape slightly longer than funicle. Thorax: Length 1.1 mm. Width: 1.5 mm. Mesepimeron, with dorsal macula of cretaceous scales. Elytra: Length 2.3 mm. Oblique lateral fascia of cretaceous scales across intervals 6–10 distad of midpoint. Abdomen: Sternite 1 as long 2 behind coxal cavity with broad shallow median declivity with truncate apex; sternites 1–4 with lateral macula of clavate, cretaceous scales; medially scales are aeneous; sternite 5 scales narrower and shorter, sternites 3 and 4 with central vitta of white scales. Genitalia: Spermatheca: not dissected.

Distribution. China: Chi Kiang (Zhejiang) Province., Mokansan, 22 September 1927, Mrs. Dora E. White; Hainan Island, Ta Han, 25 June 1935, J. L. Gressitt.

Remarks. This species resembles Curculio nigramacula Roelofs. However , it differs in having a longer vitta on interval one of the elytra and a longer rostrum as well as differences in male genitalia. This species is named in honor of eminent entomologist J. L. Gressitt, who collected this species and many of the specimens used in this study.
