Lemula setigera Tamanuki & Mitono, 1939: 207 View in CoL , fig. 1. Type locality: Jûjiro near Arisan, Chiayi County.— Mitono, 1941: 16.— Tamanuki, [1943]: 2013, fig. 225.— Hayashi, 1944: 23, 29, fig. 1c.— Gressitt, 1951: 67.— Nakamura et al., 1992: 11.— Yu & Nara, 1988: 13, 14, pl. 3, fig. 7.— Yu et al., 2002: 24–25, 78, pl. 3, fig. 12.— Chou, 2004: 76.— Chou, 2008: 76.— Hua et al., 2009: 11, 137, 274, Pl. 11, fig. 121. — Nakamura et al., 2014: 20.
Diagnosis. Male: BL = 5.5–7.8 mm. Head black with dark brown mouth parts; antennae mostly black but sometimes paler at each base of antennomeres IV–VII; pronotum blackish brown though often reddish brown along apical and basal margin; scutellum black; elytra shiny yellowish brown; ventral side with prosternum yellowish to blackish brown and darkened towards lateral sides of pronotum; meso- and metasterna usually black but rarely pale color; abdominal ventrites I–III black, apical margin of IV and V pale yellow; legs mostly black. Head and pronotum provided with intermixed different length of flying whitish hairs which are randomly directed; elytra densely furnished with two kind of whitish hairs which are fine slanted ones (0.18–0.20 mm) as long as antennomere IV, and rather thick long erect setaceous hairs (0.35–0.45 mm) as long as antennomere V.
Head densely covered with small punctures; antennae reaching apical three-fifths of elytra.
Pronotum slightly longer than width at lateral tubercles (PL/PW = 1.07), sparsely covered with small punctures, strongly constricted at a short distance behind apex with a blunt round tubercle at middle of each side; disk slightly convex on both side of median longitudinal impression.
Elytra slender (EL/EW = 2.18); disk with moderately spaced punctures which are shallower on middle area beside suture.
Endophallus (Type B). Dorsal view: CT swollen toward distally, ds small sphericity surrounded by cordiform dm and lrs; PB weakly inflated laterally; APH nearly round shaped with colored lateral sides. Lateral view: CT weakly inflated ventrally; PB distinctly projected dorsally, and weakly inflated ventrally with colored distal angulate corner; APH oval.
Female: BL = 6.7–8.4 mm; PL/PW = 1.08; EL/EW = 2.06. Antennae reaching middle of elytra.
Neotype designation. The type of this species is thought to be left in the collection of Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute when the Japanese researchers returned Japan after world war II. Then we asked to Dr. Chi-Feng Li of this institute to search the type specimen. However, he could not locate the type specimen in the collection of this institute in Taichung, nor we could find it in any Japanese institution. It is very important to fix the taxon for the stability of the species classification of Lemula because of the similarity with L. testaceipennis Gressitt, 1935 , L. zhani sp. nov. or L. jinfoshana sp. nov. ( ICZN, 1999, Art. 75.1). For this reason, we herein designate a male specimen which was collected in the type area of this species as the neotype.
Neotype ( NMNS). ♂. Alishan, Alishan Township, Jiayi County , Acer , 4-V-2016, W.-I Chou leg.
This male specimen confirms well with additional 11 specimens collected from the type area of this species. Furthermore, the comparison with original description ( Tamanuki & Mitono 1939) has confirmed it as L. setigera , and here we designate it as the neotype.

Distribution. Taiwan (New Taipei; Hsinchu; Yilan; Taichung; Nantou; Jiayi; Kaohsiung; Taitung; Pingtung).
Ecology. Flight period: March–June. Flower records: Symplocos , Trochodendron , Sorbus , Lithocarpus , Salix , Eriobotrya , Stranvaesia , Daphniphyllum .
Remarks. This species is related to L. zhani , L. jinfoshana and L. testaceipennis by elytral hairs consisting of slanted and erect hairs. It is characterized by distinctly thicker and longer erect whitish setaceous hairs of elytra together with L. zhani , but can be distinguished from the latter by shorter pronotal hairs, longer slanted hairs of elytra and different character of endophallus.
