3. Lemula (s. str.) rufithorax Pic, 1901 View in CoL
(Figs. II-3, VI-3, XV-3)
Lemula rufithorax Pic, 1901: 57 View in CoL . Type locality: Central Honshu, Japan.—Aurivillius, 1912: 168.—N. Ohbayashi, 2007: 362, pl. 6, figs. 3, 4.
Lemula decipiens rufithorax: Tamanuki, 1939: 97 View in CoL .
Lemula decipiens View in CoL ab. rufithorax: Mitono [1941] View in CoL : 16.— Hayashi, 1944: 25.
Lemula decipiens View in CoL ab. nigroguttata Hayashi, 1944: 26, fig. 2. Type locality: Kanmuri-yama, Hiroshima Pref., Japan.
Diagnosis. Male: BL = 6.0–8.0 mm. Body reddish brown; vertex, underside of body black except yellow lateral margin of each abdominal ventrite; antennae blackish brown except for each apex of I–IV antennomeres, and each base of VI–XI pale color; pronotum and elytra yellowish to reddish yellow, and sometimes each elytron widely blackish except marginal area in male (ab. nigroguttata); base of each femur pale yellow. Head and pronotum furnished with intermixed whitish and brownish short hairs; elytra sparsely furnished with pale yellow slanted hairs.
Head and pronotum densely covered with small punctures; antennae long, reaching apical third to fourth of elytra.
Pronotum shorter than width across lateral tubercles (PL/PW = 0.87).
Elytra longer than twice humeral width (EL/EW = 2.14), rather roughly punctured with rugged texture.
Endophallus (Type B). Dorsal view: CT swollen, dm cordiform with round ds surrounded by reverse parenthesis shaped lrs; PB expanded laterally with tongue shaped dm, then strongly constricted distally; APH nearly circular. Lateral view: CT moderately inflated ventrally; PB weakly inflated ventrally with colored area at distal half, and distinctly projected dorsally; APH small and nearly circular.
Female: BL = 6.4–8.8 mm; PL/PW = 0.89; EL/EW = 2.06. Similar to male, but antennae reaching middle of elytra; elytra always reddish brown; abdominal ventrites yellow except for each black middle area of I–II, or I–III.

Distribution. Japan (Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu).
Ecology. Flight period: April–June. Flower records: Acer , Stephanandra , Symplocos .
Remarks. Hayashi (1944) described ab. nigroguttata from Hiroshima Pref., Japan under L. decipiens but it is now thought to be a male local variety of L. (s. str.) rufithorax occurring in western Japan.
