13. Lemula (s. str.) formosana View in CoL formosana subsp. nov.
(Figs. VII-13, XI-13)
Description. Male: BL = 5.8–7.4 mm. Elytra variable in color from metallic green to metallic blue green. Abdominal ventrites entirely orange yellow. Elytra moderately furnished with slanted pale whitish hairs. Legs rather densely furnished with sub-recumbent pale bristles.
Antennae long, reaching apical third to fourth of elytra. Elytra moderately punctured, space between punctures wider than punctures themselves, punctures becoming finer and sparser toward apex.
Endophallus (Type C). Dorsal view: CT gradually inflated to PB without constriction, dm elongate tongue shaped and associated with distal Y-shaped colored area which is indistinct when PB is fully inflated; APH narrowed apically with slight constriction at basal third. Lateral view: CT moderately inflated ventrally; border of PC and PB not narrowed and strongly curved dorsally; PC roundly inflated ventrally; APH rice-bag shaped.
Female: BL = 5.9–8.2 mm. PL/PW = 0.97; EL/EW = 1.84.
Type series. Holotype ( NMNS): ♂, Mt. Lalashan (ḥḥm), Fuxing District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, Acer , 19- III-2009, W.-I Chou leg. (G-875).

Distribution. Taiwan (Taoyuan, Yilan, Hsinchu, Nantou, Taichung).
Ecology. Flight period: March–June. Flower records: Acer , Prunus , Litsea .
Remarks. This subspecies occurs in middle altitudes area of central to northern Taiwan. The other subspecies, L. formosana aenea is hitherto collected only at high altitude of Hsinchu County and showed sympatric distribution each other.
Lemula formosana formosana is distinguished from L. formosana aenea by the longer antennae, sparser punctures on pronotum, finer punctures on elytra and abdominal color of male. Among the Taiwanese taxa, the new subspecies is similar to L. cyanipennis in general appearance, but it can be distinguished by the shorter elytra (less than twice the elytral width) instead of longer than twice, fairly short and sparse elytral hairs, scutellum semicircular instead of tongue-shape, and different structure of endophallus (Type C instead of Type A).
