Leucophenga argentina View in CoL (de Meijere, 19 24)

( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, 3A, 3B, 7A, 7B, 10)

Drosophila argentina de Meijere, 1924: 46 View in CoL .

Leucophenga argentina Duda, 1924a: 187 View in CoL ; 1926: 49; Okada, 1987: 680.

Diagnosis. This species is mostly similar to L. umbratula in having the wing fuscous along R1 only ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A, F), and the shape of aedeagus ( Figs. 10 View FIGURE 10 E, 14D), but can be distinguished from the latter by the color patterns of abdominal tergites in both male ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A) and female ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 B), and the paramere narrowed apically ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 D); see below that species.

However, the specimens show difference from the latest and most relevant description of L. argentina from Thailand ( Okada 1987) in having the wing fuscous along R1 only ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A), while no conspicuous difference could be found in the color patterns of abdominal tergites in male ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A; Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 G, H in Okada 1987), and the shape of paramere and aedeagus ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 D, E; Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 F in Okada 1987). Therefore, all of the specimens were identified as L. argentina to avoid further confusion.

Description. Ocellar triangle dark brown, with ca. 0–2 seta(e) above ocellar setae. Frons brownish yellow. Pedicel brownish yellow; first flagellomere yellow. Clypeus brownish yellow. Palpus brownish yellow.

Mesonotum brownish yellow, with four interrupted, brown, longitudinal stripes submedially and laterally in male ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A), brownish yellow, brownish before scutellum in female. Postpronotal lobe yellow ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B). Acrostichal setulae in ca. 8–10 irregular rows ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A). Scutellum brownish, dark brown laterally, brownish yellow at tip ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A). Pleura, katepisternum and meron mostly brown above ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B). Wing ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A): Costal vein between R2+3 and R4+5 distally with ca. 4–6 peg-like spinules on ventral surface. Abdominal tergites black, with a pair of yellow patches submedially between 2nd to 4th tergites in male ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A), with a pair of yellow patches submedially between 2nd to 3rd tergites, 4th tergite with a pair of yellow patches subanteromedially in female ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 B). Male terminalia: Epandrium with ca. 4 setae near posterior margin per side ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 B). Surstylus rounded apically ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 B). Hypandrium with 1 sensillum ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 C). Paramere with a remarkable wrinkle subdorsally and ca. 5 sensilla aligned above distally ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 D).
