Leucophenga formosa Okada, 1987: 677 View in CoL .

Diagnosis. This species resembles L. cultella sp. nov. in having the wing fuscous along R1 and costa ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C, I), and the color patterns of abdominal tergites in both male ( Figs. 7 View FIGURE 7 D, 8J) and female ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 K), but can be distinguished from the latter by having the thorax mostly dark colored ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E, F), the paramere narrowed basally ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 C), and the aedeagus thick, reticulated medially, laterally with a thick process ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 D); see below that species.

However, the specimens show somewhat differences from the description of the holotype from Taiwan, China ( Okada 1987) in the color patterns of abdominal tergites in male ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 D), and the structure of aedeagus ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 D), while no conspicuous difference could be found in the patterns of wing ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C), and the shape of paramere and aedeagus ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 C, D; Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 F in Okada 1987); moreover, parts of the specimens were collected near the type locality. Therefore, all of the specimens were identified as L. formosa to avoid further confusion.

Description. Ocellar triangle dark brown, with ca. 0–2 seta(e) above ocellar setae. Frons yellowish to brownish, with an indistinct, brown, longitudinal stripe medially. Pedicel brownish yellow to brownish; first flagellomere yellow to brownish yellow. Clypeus brownish to brown. Palpus yellow to brownish yellow. Mesonotum mostly with three broad, brown, longitudinal stripes medially and laterally ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E). Postpronotal lobe yellow to brownish yellow ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 F). Acrostichal setulae in ca. 10–12 irregular rows ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E). Scutellum dark brown, brown at tip in male ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E), brownish yellow at tip in female. Pleura, katepisternum and meron mostly brown above ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 F). Wing ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C): Costal vein between R2+3 and R4+5 distally with ca. 5–6 peg-like spinules on ventral surface. Midleg obviously brown on knees. Abdominal tergites mostly dark brown ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 D), with a pair of yellow patches submedially between 2nd to 3rd tergites in both male and female. Male terminalia: Epandrium with ca. 4 setae near posterior margin per side ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 A). Surstylus rounded apically ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 A). Hypandrium with 1 sensillum ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 B). Paramere with ca. 5 sensilla distodorsally ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 C). Aedeagus thick, acute apically ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 D).
