Type locality. Bay of Naples , Italy ( Lang 1884).

Distribution. Puerto Grande de San Vicente, Cape Verde ( Laidlaw 1906); Canary Archipelago: Tenerife (De Vera et al. 2009) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 , T10; Table 1 and 2).

Occurrence in the Canary Islands. The organism was observed at depths of 4 metres, on 02/07/2003.

Taxonomic remarks. The translucent appearance in which multiple male copulatory organs can be distinguished, the intestinal ramifications are marked orange or reddish, the cerebral eyes are grouped in a characteristic single elongated cluster, and the marginal eyes distributed along the first third of the body, agrees with the description made by Lang in 1884 form A. virilis .
