Type Locality: Indonesia, Prov. of Papua (= Irian Jaya), Vogelkop, Manokwari Div., Arfak Mtns.
Vernacular Names: Long-tailed Pygmy Possum.

Subspecies Cercartetus caudatus subsp. macrura Mjöberg 1916
Distribution: Interior New Guinea, above 1500 m; Fergusson Isl ( Papua New Guinea); NE Queensland ( Australia).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt) as C. c. macrurus, Lower Risk (lc) as C. c. caudatus . Common.
Discussion: Includes macrura (see Ride, 1970:224). Formerly included in Eudromicia ; see comment under genus.
