Habitat: —Quartzitic or granitic rocks, elev. 1600–1800 m.
Distribution in Rwanda:—Eastern Province: Umutara (Ngarama), Akagera, Rugarama, Nyarubuye.
General distribution: —Africa: Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania.
Note: —This species is widely distributed. The West African plants have been described as Asplenium mantoniae A.F. Braithwaite (2008: 85) , nom. illeg. (= A. irenemantoniae Viane nom. nov. [2021: 182]). Probably, the southern African plants also represent a different taxon ( Viane 2021). The material from Madagascar identified as A. stuhlmannii by Tardieu-Blot (1958: 229) belongs partly to A. blastophorum Hieronymus (1911: 378) (see Viane 2021: 49) or A. pseudostuhlmannii Viane (2021: 181) .
The orthography of the collecting sites has been verified by Viane (2021: 182).
