Agapornithinae are small green parrots with short round or wedge-shaped tails. The clade consists of the monotypic Bolbopsittacus lunulatus View in CoL of the Philippines, the hanging parrots ( Loriculus View in CoL ), which occur from India to New Guinea, and the lovebirds ( Agapornis View in CoL ) of the Afrotropics. Agapornis View in CoL and Loriculus View in CoL share the behavior of carrying nesting material in their feathers ( Forshaw, 1973). Relationships among the three genera are stable. Bolbopsittacus View in CoL diverged from the common ancestor of Loriculus View in CoL and Agapornis View in CoL at 24.4 Mya (17.4–28.8), and Loriculus View in CoL and Agapornis View in CoL then split at 23.1 Mya (16.4–27.3; figs. 1, 11) We advocate recognition of this phylogenetic depth and structure at least through recognition of a tribe for Bolbopsittacus View in CoL and we note that two family-group names are available with which to recognize two other currently monogeneric tribes for Loriculus View in CoL and Agapornis View in CoL . In accordance with articles 13.1 and 13.2 of the Code ( ICZN, 1999) we therefore introduce a new family-group name at the rank of tribe for the genus Bolbopsittacus View in CoL :
