Nakaharanus Ishihara, 1953 View in CoL

Nakaharanus Ishihara,1953: 192 View in CoL ; Li et al., 2011: 139; Zahniser & Dietrich, 2013: 43.

Type species: Eutettix nakaharae Matsumura,1914 View in CoL

Description. Body stout. Head including eyes narrower than pronotum and anteriorly triangularly produced, shorter than width between eyes. Eyes large, ocelli on anterior margin, separated from corresponding eye by approximately their own diameter. Antennae arising near lower corner of eye. Face with dark, transverse streaks. Anteclypeus slightly expanded apically. Pronotum anterior margin strongly and roundly produced, posterior margin slightly concave. Scutellum triangular, its length slightly shorter than length of pronotum, with transverse suture curved and depressed. Forewings with four apical cells and three subapical cells, appendix very small. Hindwing with three apical cells and two anteapical cells. Profemur with 2 dorsoapical setae, row AM with 1 stout seta, intercalary row with 13-14 setae, and row AV with several short setae in basal half. Protibia with 4 macrosetae in row AD and numerous macrosetae decreasing in length toward the base in row AV. Hind femur broadened distally and slightly bowed, apical setal formula 2+2+1. Hind tibia flattened and nearly straight, row AD with approximately 9 long stout setae and 1–4 shorter stout setae between each long seta; row PD with approximately 7 long stout setae and 2–4 shorter stout setae between each long seta; metabasitarsomere with four platellae and two setae on apical transverse row, and one row of four stout setae at middle and one row of four stout setae at lateral margin.

Male genitalia. Male pygofer side longer than high, with numerous macrosetae, posteroventral margin with a process. Valve subtriangular. Subgenital plate with wide base, sharply narrowed posteriorly, with a few macrosetae at outer margin. Connective Y-shaped, articulated with aedeagus. Aedeagal shaft curved, slender, apex of aedeagal shaft with a pair of processes, C-shaped in the lateral view, gonopore apical. Style with basal half wider and narrowing to the middle, apical half narrow.

Female genitalia. Female seventh sternum is significantly different among known species. Female pygofer with ventroposterior margin slightly incurved. First valvulae with obscure reticulate sculpture dorsally and scale-like sculpture ventrally. Second valvulae with some distal teeth, and occupying about half of the total length.

Remarks. The genus is similar to Eutettix Van Duzee, 1892 in general appearance, but can be distinguished by the posteroventral margin of male pygofer side with a process, and apex of aedeagal shaft with a pair of processes. The new genus is also similar to Orientus DeLong, 1938 in general appearance, but can be distinguished from the latter by the pygofer side without a process on the inner surface, apex of aedeagal shaft with a pair of processes, and subgenital plate without a conspicuous lobe.

Distribution. China, Japan, Korea.
