Lonchaea splendida Loew, 1873b: 292 View in CoL . Italy (Sicily) and Greece (Corfu) (type unknown). Distribution. AF: Madagascar, s. Africa. AU: Hawaii. NE: Bermuda. PA: Canary Is., Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Madeira, Sicilia, Spain.

Egyptian localities. Coastal Strip: Abu Qir, Muntazah, Nuzha, Ramleh. Lower Nile Valley and Delta: Cairo, Gharbyia, Giza, Kerdassa, Qubba. Sinai: Arish, St. Katherine, Wadi El-Lega. Plants from which flies were swept. Cabbage ( Brassica oleracea View in CoL L.), eggplant ( Solanum melongena View in CoL L.), fig ( Ficus carica L.), tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum View in CoL L.) and watermelon ( Citrullus View in CoL sp.). Biology. MacGowan & Freidberg (2008) reared L. smaragdi from decayed sorghum, rotten potato, figs, avocado, and watermelon.
