Derallus terraenovae Oliva, 1983
( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 6 – 9 )
Derallus terraenovae Oliva, 1983: 438 .
Type material examined. Paratype: BRAZIL: Amazonas State, Solimões inferior, Paraná de Terra Novae ( USNM).
Additional material examined (56). PANAMA: Cocle, 5.3 mi. E Anton, grassy pond, 6.vii. 1967, P.J. Spangler leg. (52: AEZS, USNM); Chiriqui, 5 mi. NW Las Lejas, grassy pond, 5.vii. 1967, P.J. Spangler leg. (1: USNM); Toucumen airport, 7.vii. 1967, P.J. Spangler, leg. (3: USNM). Representative material deposited in MALUZ, MIZA, MFPC and NMW.
Diagnosis. Total length: 2.4–2.8 mm. The distinct ground elytral punctation, single to double row of punctures in interstria X, and the extremely low anterior tooth of the mesosternal process serve to distinguish this species. The later character will separate the taxon from D. altus , with which it is most easily confused.
Distribution. Brazil, Panama (new record).
Remarks. Although the only previous records of this species are from Amazonian Brazil, the specimens agree well with the paratype; the identity of several Panamanian specimens was also kindly confirmed by A. Oliva (Buenos Aires).
