Notes. Surprisingly, Didymium nigrisporum is the most frequent and widely distributed species in the studied area. Initially described from Pradesh ( India) and, so far, only reported from this country and Peru ( Clark & Haskins, 2014). Similar to D. ilicinum by the prominent, calcareous columella and the formation of crystal scales or aggregations in the peridium, differing by the smaller and paler spores of D. nigrisporum . Lado et al. (2016) first cited this species in Peru. They commented on the variability in the density of the lime in the peridium in the Peruvian specimens, with lime-poor forms, lime in scales, and lime forming a crust. The material reported here shows mostly sporophores with lime scales but never crusts.
