Global distribution. Western Atlantic : Massachusetts , Rhode Island , North Carolina , South Carolina, eastern and western Florida , and Texas ( USA) ; Panama, Venezuela, Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Rio de Janeiro to southern Brazil ; La Paloma, Uruguay .

Records in Cuba. Sabana-Camagüey Archipelago, Holguín (Jururú Bay) ( Martínez-Iglesias et al. 1993; Martínez-Iglesias 2007).
