Redescription. Measurements (min-max; n=300): HW: 0.75–0.96; HL: 0.50–0.73; OL: 0.22–0.30; LT: 0.10– 0.15; AL: 2.76–3.13; PL: 0.75–0.90; PWmax: 0.85–1.15; PWmin: 0.67–0.85; ESL: 1.25–1.75; EW: 1.45–1.92; MTbL (average): 1.15; MTrL (average): 0.55 (MTrL 1–4: 0.30; MTrL 5: 0.25); AW: 1.35–1.95; AedL: 0.65–0.90 (holotype: 0.70); BL: 3.98–5.85 (holotype: 4.90).

Body brown to reddish-brown or black, usually with paler elytra and paratergites; mouthparts, antennae and legs yellow to yellow-brown; apical segment of maxillary palp and tarsi yellow; specimens with black forebody usually with black basal antennomere, femora and tibia, and with yellow-reddish apical segment of maxillary palp, antennomeres 2–11 and tarsi. Body glossy, without microsculpture on elytra; head usually without microreticulation in middle or sometimes with several meshes in interocellar depression, with indistinct transverse sculpture on posterior part of infraorbital ridges; neck with large cellular sculpture; pronotum usually without microsculpture, but with very indistinct transvberse meshes in middle in some specimens; middle portion of scutellum without or with indistinct transverse meshes; abdominal tergites with distinct, dense, transverse microreticulation. Head 1.3–1.5 times as wide as long, slightly convex in portions between anterio-median and interocellar depressions and infraorbital ridges; anterio-median depression moderately deep, sometimes distinctly narrowed basad and connected with interocellar depression; temples moderately long, about half as long as eyes, convex or gradually narrowed toward neck; interocellar depression deep, moderately narrow or wide, separated from infraorbital ridges by convergent latero-anteriad indistinct to distinct and deep groves in front of ocelli, usually reaching apical third of eyes. Eyes large, convex. Ocelli large, distance between ocelli as long as distance between ocellus and posterior margin of eyes, or slightly shorter. Punctation irregular and moderately fine, denser and deeper in interocellar depression and in infraorbital ridges; neck without or with indistinct and irregular very fine punctures. Preapical segment of maxillary palp about as long as preceding segment, from basal portion gradually widened apicad; apical palpomere slightly shorter than preapical segment, widest in middle portion, gradually narrowing apically. Antennae long, exceeding apical fourth or sometimes hind margin of elytra when reclined; antennomeres with lengths × widths (average): 1: 0.37 × 0.11; 2: 0.20 × 0.07; 3: 0.30 × 0.08; 4–6: 0.25 × 0.08; 7–10: 0.25 × 0.09; 11: 0.42 × 0.09.

Pronotum convex, 1.2 times as wide as long, 1.1–1.2 times as wide as head, widest slightly above middle, with rounded anterior angles, gradually narrowed toward obtuse or moderately acute basal angles; narrowest basal part usually with slightly concaved lateral margins; anterior margin slightly rounded or straight; posterior margin straight; middle portion without or with indistinct to distinct longitudinal depression, and with small oval depression in mediobasal third. Punctation as that in head, but more regular and denser, sometimes with impunctate small area above mediobasal depression.

Scutellum moderartely large, without or with a few fine, irregular punctures.

Elytra slightly convex, slightly wider than long, 1.6–1.9 time as long as pronotum, slightly widened posteriad. Punctation as that in pronotum or slightly larger and deeper, markedly finer and denser on prescutellar portion.

Metatarsi about half as long as metatibia; apical metatarsomere slightly shorter than preceding four metatarsomeres.

Abdomen slightly narrower or about as wide as elytra, convex, with two large, transverse tomentose spots in the middle of tergite IV. Punctation distinct, very dense and fine.

Male. Protarsomeres 1–4 markedly wide. Apical margins of abdominal tergite VIII ( Fig. 64 View FIGURES 64–65 ) and sternite VIII ( Fig. 65 View FIGURES 64–65 ) slightly sinuate. Aedeagus (Figs. 66, 68–80) with very wide basal portion and narrow median lobe, gradually narrowing toward small, acute or rounded apex; parameres moderately long, exceeding apex of median lobe, very wide, from basal third significantly widened apically, with three long and one short apical setae; internal sac narrow, with wide and short flagellum. Lateral aspect of aedegus as in Fig. 67.

Female. Protarsomeres 1–4 narrow.Apical margins of abdominal tergite VIII and sternite VIII straight or slightly rounded.

Comparative notes. Regarding the structure of the internal sac, G. paramerus belong to the plagiatus group ( Bordoni 1984). Regarding coloration, the punctation of the pronotum, the length of the antennae, and the shape of the pronotum, it is similar to G. magnus and G. sinuatus . It can be distinguished from G. magnus by the smaller body and the finer punctation of head and elytra. It differs from G. sinuatus by narrower elytra. It differs from both species, differs by the shape of the narrow median lobe, significantly wider parameres, and the shape of the internal structure of the aedeagus.

Distribution. Geodromicus paramerus is known from Russia (Buryatia) and China ( Fig. 112 View FIGURE 112 ).

Bionomics. The specimens were collected at elevations from 600 to 4500 m a.s.l. from May to September. They were taken by sifting moss and litter near banks of streans and rivers, by flooding gravel banks, or they collected from under stones and among gravel close to water. The holotype was collected near a dry stream under a stone, near Salix thickets and a Picea forest island in a steppe habitat.

Remarks. The species was described based on a male from south-eastern Buryatia (Kyakhtinskiy District) at the border with Chita (not from Chita as indicated by Shavrin 2000), and on two females from south-western Buryatia (Dzhidinskiy District). Two paratypes in fact belong to G. sibiricus ; for details see Shavrin (2018). The species is here recorded from China for the first time.
